Shakespeare’s iconic question, “What’s in a name?” prompts us to consider the complexities of identity. In this piece, I explore how the names I am referred to in my new home reflect the circumstances that shaped my sense of self within this environment. The home is symbolized by a beloved plate, which is shown encouraging me to suspend myself in water, represented by a vibrant blue line. This act is significant, as it mirrors the growth of a sweet potato—a name I hold dear—which thrives in water as its first sprouts emerge. Through this imagery, I invite viewers to consider how identity, growth, and belonging are deeply intertwined.

I have found a home filled with love. In my gratitude, I reflect on my growth which has been nurtured through patience, a lot of luck, and most importantly, by being open to receiving the love I have given. This reminds me of my dear sweet potatoes suspended in water. Given the right conditions, they flourish just as I have.
